Chapter 3: Roses for You.
{10 years in the future}
The petals fluttered, the birds chirped, as I sat there, staring at the river in front of me, deep in thought.
"-aru? Haru? HARU!"
Startled, I turned, and faced Akira, holding Shirayuki in his arms, grinning at me.
"Oh Akira, it's just you.."
"That's all I get? 'oh Akira it's just you..'" he replied, pouting.
I laughed, and returned to gazing at the river.
"It's almost been ten years, hasn't it Haru? Since Sora...." He trailed off, not wanting to complete the sentence, as it would revoke memories, both good and bad.
I held Shirayuki, as we both gazed at the pool of glistening water.He offered his hand, as I attempted to stand on my own. Gratefully, I took it, smiling at him.
"Well then, shall we meet up with the others?"

{Present time, 11th June, 8:15am}
I jerked awake, gazed wearily at the clock for a few moments, and realised the time, leaping out of bed and running around hurriedly to change and pack my bag.  Rushing through the hallway, I see Yuta-nii and Yuki-nii, calmly eating their breakfast at the table, as mum handed them their lunches. I grabbed my bento, and packed it into my overflowing bag, and began gobbling down the bowl of rice in front of me.
"Geez Haru, no guy's going to date you if you eat like that!" exclaimed Yuki-nii, as always.
"Yeah Haru, he's right. You need to be more feminine or else you'll be forever alone!!!" Yuta-nii added, making me sound even worse.
"S-shut up! You guys don't even have girlfriends, so why are you complaining about me?!" I retorted, gulping down my glass of milk.
"Ok, ok, that's enough you three. Now, be good little kids, and head off to school now while I sleep in today!" I turned, surprised to see my father standing at the foot of the stairs, still in his pyjamas.
"Dad! That's unfair! Why do you get to sleep in?!" we cried in unison.
"Well, I don't feel like going to work!" he laughed, as we stared at him strangely.
"Honey, that's enough too, go back to bed, you're still sick!" scolded my mother, as she shooed my father away from the kitchen and back up to their room. She turned to the three of us, taking our bowls and glasses, as we sat down on the step and wore our shoes.
"Bye Mum!" we call, running out of the house to the train station.
"Have a safe trip!" she replied, watching us leave for school.

{Homare High, Homeroom, 8:50am}
The bell rings, as I squirm impatiently in my seat, eager to see whether the letter was telling the truth, although I'm sure that I've decided that it was real. Alice joins me at my desk, and notices instantly that I'm waiting for something.
At that moment, the classroom door slammed open, as Fujioka-sensei walked into the room, wearing her Tuesday outfit: a plain long-sleeved shirt, a floral skirt and her signature boots, black with bright purple laces threaded through them. Following behind her, a tall boy with slightly blue hair walked into the classroom. Dyed hair, earrings, the typical 'cool' guy, I thought. Fujioka-sensei began writing kanji on the board, the chalk screeching slightly as she drew the lines.
'Takahito Sora'. My eyes widened, and I was ecstatic. "YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I yelled, my voice echoing throughout the classroom. All eyes turned on me. Fujioka-sensei was pissed, and you could tell when she began tapping her foot on the floor, and the steps would gradually grow stronger, and louder.
"Asaba, anything you'd like to tell the class perhaps?"
I blushed furiously, as I realised I had screamed out loud, while she was introducing the transfer student. I looked down at my desk, and answered quietly, "No.."
The class roared with laughter, as I sat down again, still red in the face.
"Well then, Takahito-kun, please introduce yourself."
"Y-y-yes! Takahito Sora, 16 years old, from Tokyo. Um.. I don't have any particular talents or hobbies ah so... Please take care of me!"
"Now, let's see... ah! Asaba. You have a new desk buddy now!" She smiled, but it certainly wasn't a happy one. The entire class could read her expressions, this time, it was 'Asaba, this is for disturbing my class so now you lose your spare desk'. "Now, I am going to get the class work, Sakamoto-san, come with me."
"Yes!" Alice stood up, and followed her out of the room. The second they left, the class erupted with chatter, as Takahito weaved his way through piles of backpacks, desks, and people, sat down next to me and looked out the window.
"Umm.. Hello! I'm Asaba Haru, you can call me Haru! I guess we're desk buddies from now on huh?"
Silence hovered over the two of us awkwardly, as the rest of the class rushed back to their seats in the nick of time to escape being scolded by Fujioka-sensei.
"Thank you Sakamoto-san, take a seat after handing out the booklets."
Alice sighed, but did as she was told, and began placing the sheets on each desk obediently, and sat down in her seat, a row away from mine.
"Anyway, as you all SHOULD know, the school festival is soon, and so, starting tomorrow, we are to work on our class's event."
The class cheered with joy, and chattered away for the rest of the day about the yearly event.
"Maid cafe?" "No way! I don't want to wear that!"  "Then, how about a play?" "But we don't have anyone to bring in the customers with their amazing looks!" "Excuse us, what did you just say! We're not good looking enough for you? How rude!" "Haha! But i don't think anyone wants to act in a play anyway, it's too much work, don't you think?" "What about... a tea party cafe?" "Eh, that sounds interesting! Should we make it an Alice in Wonderland cafe?" "Hmmm.. what about a fairytale cafe?" "Yeah, yeah! That sounds fun! Let's do that!"
----------
DING DONG!
The sound of the school bell echoed throughout  the hallways, marking the usual rush hour, at precisely 3:20pm. Students grabbed their bags, hurriedly tucked their chairs in and sprinted for the shoe lockers, desperate to leave the school and have fun with their friends.
The only ones left in the classroom were Sora, Alice, Erika, Yogi, Akira and I, the usual group, with Sora the new addition to it.
"Hey hey Erika, let's go to the bakery this afternoon! I want some curry bread and melon bread and apple bread and a chocolate coronet and-"
"Ok, fine. But Yogi, you can't eat all of the bread! What about the others?! And the curry bread's MINE, thank you very much!"
"Eeeh! But I wanted the curry bread!" pouted an annoyed Akira, as he attempted to persuade Erika to give him the curry bread.
"Why can't we just get two curry breads?" piped in a confused Sora, as everyone turned to look at him. "W-w-what?"
"Haha, Takahito-kun  you wouldn't know right? Erika's bakery only bakes ten curry breads per day! They're extremely rare,  but Erika eats it every day! What a fatty right?!" I exclaimed, and we all burst into laughter, that rang through the corridor.
"Then, let's give the curry bread to Sora!" decided Yogi, beaming with happiness. "I can call you Sora right?"
He smiled, as we all gasped in surprise.
"Y-y-you smiled!" exclaimed Yogi, as we all laughed and cheered happily.
"Anyway, let's go!"
'I want you to make sure Sora doesn't go home with you guys.'
I pushed the thought out of my head. What harm could going out for bread bring?

{11th June, 4:32pm, Asaba Household}
I arrived home, dragged myself up the stairs and into my room, and flopped down onto my soft, welcoming bed, tired from a day of excitement. As I lay on my bed, the sunlight peered down through the glass window, decorated with princess stickers, doodles and gold stars from my bright childhood.
The letter popped into my mind. My eyes flicked open, and I pulled myself up to my desk, and grabbed the wad of paper in my left hand, dropping it on the bed sheets. Curious as always, I unfolded the next entry.

{12th June, 2012}
Today, our class decided to host a fairy tale cafe, for the school festival in two weeks, as suggested by Aoi-chan, our class president, who has silky, long, flowing brown hair, sort of like Alice's. Did you know? She's been asked out by the school president, mega-ikemen Gareki-kun, who is also Yuki-nii and Yuta-nii's best friend! By the way, they told me about this in detail, but there are rumours floating around the school already!  Personally, I think that they like each other, so I'm rooting for them with Yuki- nii and Yuta-nii! It's been said that she'll reply to Gareki-kun's confession today, and I'm going to peek with Yuta and Yuki and our friends this afternoon, because they're going on a date at the amusement park today! Disguise time! ;D
Anyway, I was asked to be Ariel, and I agreed, although I didn't really want to be her; her costume's extremely revealing! It's just wearing a purple shell bra and a green skirt! But I didn't want to let anyone down, so I agreed. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Sora looking at me. Had he noticed?
Alice will be of course, Alice herself in Alice in Wonderland, Erika has been chosen to be Little Red Riding Hood, Akira will be one of the seven dwarves, Yogi the Mad Hatter and Sora Prince Charming!
Well, that's all for now, I need to make our bentos for tomorrow, it'll be a busy day, I'm sure!
Asaba Haru
-----**
I looked down at the bottom of the page, and as expected found a paragraph of neat, cursive handwriting written in black, from the future me.
------**
Dear the me in her second year of high school, I hope you chose the right decision, and didn't let Sora go with you to Erika's bakery.
Tomorrow, if you do not want to be Ariel for the class cafe, refuse, it will be fine. Sora will help you find another character to be, and so will everyone else. That day, Erika confessed to Sora.
Don't hold back for the sake of your friends like I did, Haru.
So please, don't make the same mistakes that I did.
